Dear RODNEY Fagan, Do you have seniors who want to become Army Officers? Please tell them to apply for the Army ROTC Scholarship. The second of three national boards meets in January.

  • 07 JAN: deadline to complete application to be eligible for January Board

  • 04 FEB: Final deadline to begin new applicaition for 2018-2019 School year

  • 04 MAR: Final deadline to complete and submit application

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Dear Mr. Fagan,

Do you have Cadets who need money to pay for college? If they have good grades, are athletic, and have good leadership skills, please tell them to consider the North Georgia Military Scholarship.

We have 42 full scholarships for high school seniors to attend the University of North Georgia (UNG), participate in the Corps of Cadets, earn their bachelor's degrees, and commission as second lieutenants in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Each year, about 80 high school seniors apply for these scholarships which pay tuition, fees, room, meals, books and uniforms (worth about $70,000 over four years). In addition, recipients earn up to $30,000 in pay and benefits as Soldiers in the Georgia Army National Guard.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Four-Year High School Scholarship is for high school students planning on attending a four-year college program. Contact your high school academic advisor or campus Military Science department for more information.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Be between the ages of 17 and 26

  • Have a high school GPA of at least 2.50

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Score a minimum of 920 on the SAT (math/verbal) or 19 on the ACT (excluding the required writing test scores)

  • Meet physical standards

  • Agree to accept a commission and serve in the Army on Active Duty or in a Reserve Component (Army Reserve or Army National Guard)

Your Commitment

  • An eight-year service commitment with the Army.

  • Serve full time in the Army for four years and four years with the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).

  • Selected Cadets may choose to serve part time in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career

USACC OPORD 16-09-025 – Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Essay Contest

1. SITUATION. For SY 16-17, portions of the JROTC Essay Contest will be incorporated into the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) 2017. Out of the possible thousands of essays submitted by Cadets, the JROTC Directorate will select the top three essays as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place national winners. The national winners will win an all-expense paid roundtrip to JLAB 2017 at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., on 23-27 June 2017. COF will provide gift card to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place national winners, valued at $375, $225, and $150 respectively, during JLAB Awards Ceremony.

All Advance Leadership Class cadets will participate in the essay contest. Osborne’s winner will receive two (2) JROTC Military Ball tickets, The SAI Leadership Ribbon, SAI certificate of achievement and a letter from the Principal.

2. MISSION. US Army Cadet Command (USACC) conducts a JROTC Essay Contest in SY16-17 in support of JROTC’s mission to motivate young people to be better citizens, and to instill in students the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.

The length of the essays will be 2-3 pages, excluding cover page. Pages within the essay, including cover page, must adhere to the following:

(1) Essay Theme: Service to Others. See attached grading rubric.

Clearly explains each of the following three main points: Describe your role in providing a service to others, Which JROTC lesson(s) helped you prepare for service to others and how? What did you learn from your participation in service to others?

(2) Layout:

(a) Font Type: Times New Roman

(b) Font size: 12.

(c) Spacing: Double.

(d) Margins: 1 inch on all sides.

(3) Cover page will identify Cadet’s:

(a) First and last name.

(b) Home address (street, city, state, and zip code)

(c) LET number

(d) High school name

(e) High school address (2451 Favor Road, Marietta, GA 30060)
